Overview
Nefertiti botox is a botulinum toxin application to specific muscles of the neck and jawline, aiming for a more defined jawline and a more balanced neck appearance.
The platysma muscle in the neck plays an important role in the appearance of the lower face, jawline and neck. With age or strong muscle activity, vertical platysmal bands may become prominent. The downward pull of the platysma can also make the jawline look less defined.
Platysma botox (neck botox) reduces activity in certain parts of this muscle to soften the appearance of vertical neck bands. Application along the jawline and to suitable areas of the platysma may be called Nefertiti botox or a Nefertiti lift.
The aim is not to create a surgical lifting effect, but in suitable people to reduce the downward pull of the platysma so that the neck and jawline look more balanced and defined.
Before the procedure the neck and jawline are assessed both at rest and during muscle movement. Injection points are determined by examining platysma activity and prominent bands.
A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the area and left for about 15 minutes. Botulinum toxin is then injected into the determined points with very fine needles.
In Nefertiti botox, injections can be made along the jawline and into suitable areas of the platysma. When treating platysmal bands, the prominent bands are targeted.
The procedure is short and the person can continue their daily life afterwards.

Process

The effect of botulinum toxin usually begins within the first few days after the procedure and becomes evident within about 10–14 days.
At the end of this period, neck muscle movement and jawline appearance are assessed and an additional application can be planned if needed.

In suitable people, reducing the downward pull the platysma exerts on the jawline can help the jawline look clearer and more balanced.
However, Nefertiti botox is not a filler or a surgical face-and-neck lift. If the main cause of an undefined jawline is skin laxity, fat tissue or bone structure, the result achievable with botox may be limited.

Platysmal bands are vertical muscle bands in the neck that can become prominent especially while speaking, smiling or contracting the neck muscles. They may become more visible with age.
With platysma botox, the muscle activity of these bands is reduced to aim for a softer neck appearance.
