Filler Applications

Cheekbone, Cheek and Mid-Face Filler

Mid-face volume loss, cheekbone contour and the under-eye to cheek transition are assessed together to preserve the natural proportions of the face.

Overview

Cheekbone, cheek and mid-face filler is the application of hyaluronic acid based filler to selected facial areas in order to support mid-face volume loss, refine facial contours and define the cheekbones.

Age-related changes in bone, fat tissue and skin in the mid-face can cause volume loss in the cheeks, a more tired appearance and more visible transitions in the under-eye and nasolabial areas.

Mid-face filler is not performed merely to add volume. With injections at the right points, the aim is to support the natural contours of the face, define the cheekbones and balance mid-face proportions.

How Is Mid-Face Filler Performed?

Before the procedure the face is assessed from the front, side and various angles. Cheekbone structure, cheek volume, the under-eye to cheek transition and overall facial proportions are examined to determine the injection points.

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area and left for about 15–20 minutes. Hyaluronic acid filler is then placed in the planned areas with a fine needle or cannula according to individual needs.

Mild swelling, tenderness or rarely bruising may occur afterwards. Most people can continue their daily routine.

Eligibility

Who Is Cheekbone, Cheek and Mid-Face Filler Suitable For?

Mid-face filler is particularly suitable for;

  • Those with age-related volume loss in the cheek area,
  • Those who want more defined cheekbones,
  • Those whose mid-face looks flat or lacks volume,
  • Those with hollowness in the cheeks,
  • Those who want a softer transition between the under-eye area and the cheek,
  • Those who look more tired due to reduced mid-face support

women and men. Before the procedure not only the cheek or cheekbone but the proportions and volume distribution of the whole face are assessed.

Scope

What Can Be Achieved With Mid-Face Filler?

Depending on individual needs, mid-face filler can achieve;

  • The cheekbones can be defined,
  • Volume loss in the cheek area can be supported,
  • The mid-face contour can be refined,
  • The transition between the under-eye area and the cheek can be softened,
  • Some facial asymmetries can be balanced,
  • Mid-face support that decreases with age can be restored.

The aim is not to overfill the face but to restore lost or anatomically deficient support at the appropriate points.

Distinction

Are Cheekbone Filler and Cheek Filler the Same?

Although cheekbone filler and cheek filler are applied in adjacent areas, they may not serve the same purpose.

Cheekbone filler mainly aims to support the bony framework and define the cheekbone contour, while cheek filler focuses on supporting volume deficiency or age-related volume loss in the soft tissues of the mid-face.

Depending on individual needs, both areas can be treated together in the same session.

Process

01

Does Mid-Face Filler Make the Face Look Fuller?

When applied to the correct areas in appropriate amounts, the aim of mid-face filler is not to inflate or round the face.

The procedure is planned according to individual facial anatomy, aiming to re-establish cheekbone and mid-face support. Excessive filler or injections into unsuitable areas may make the face look heavy or puffy.

For this reason, where the filler is placed anatomically is as important as how much is used.

02

Does Mid-Face Filler Reduce Nasolabial Lines?

Loss of mid-face volume and support can contribute to more pronounced nasolabial lines. In such cases, assessing mid-face support first may be more appropriate than filling the nasolabial line directly.

Supporting the mid-face can help soften the appearance of the nasolabial area in some people. However, the outcome depends on individual anatomy and the cause of the line.

03

When Does It Settle and How Long Does It Last?

The change is visible right after the procedure. Since mild oedema may be present in the first days, it is usually appropriate to wait 1–2 weeks for the final appearance.

Hyaluronic acid mid-face and cheekbone fillers generally last about 1 year. Duration varies with the properties of the product, the amount used, the treated area and individual characteristics.

Mid-Face Filler Is Planned Individually

Ageing and volume loss in the mid-face do not occur the same way in everyone. Since the cheekbone, cheek, under-eye and nasolabial areas are interrelated, it is important to evaluate them together.

The amount of filler, the anatomical area treated and the injection technique are determined according to individual facial structure, aiming to preserve the natural proportions and expression of the face.

Does cheekbone filler make the face look slimmer?+

Supporting the cheekbone at appropriate points can make facial contours look more defined. This may make the face appear more sculpted in some people, but filler does not reduce facial fat or physically slim the face.

Does cheek filler puff up the face?+

The goal is not to add as much volume as possible. The amount of filler and injection points are determined according to existing volume loss and facial anatomy. With correct planning, natural facial proportions are preserved.

Does mid-face filler improve the under-eye area?+

One cause of under-eye hollowing can be reduced mid-face support. In such cases supporting the mid-face can soften the transition between the under-eye area and the cheek. However, not every under-eye concern can be corrected with mid-face filler.

Does mid-face filler provide a lifting effect?+

Supporting appropriate anatomical points in the mid-face can give facial contours a more lifted appearance. However, filler is not an alternative to a surgical facelift and does not eliminate significant skin laxity.

Is cheekbone and mid-face filler painful?+

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. Brief stinging, pressure or tenderness may be felt during injection.

Can mid-face filler be dissolved?+

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase when needed. The necessity of dissolving is assessed by the physician.

Can cheekbone and cheek filler be applied to men?+

Yes. Mid-face filler can also be applied to men. However, female and male facial anatomy and ideal proportions differ. In men, volumisation that would make the face look overly round or feminine is avoided; the aim is to support the necessary areas while preserving bone structure and masculine facial lines.

Can mid-face filler be performed during pregnancy?+

Filler for cosmetic purposes is not recommended during pregnancy. It is preferable to postpone the procedure until after pregnancy.
