Rosacea Treatment

Treatment planned according to the dominant finding in persistent facial redness, sensitivity and visible capillaries.

Overview

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that mainly affects the central face with redness, burning, stinging, sensitivity, visible capillaries and occasional acne-like bumps.

It most often affects the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. In some people redness and visible vessels dominate, while in others acne-like red bumps and inflammatory lesions are more prominent.

The aim of treatment is to reduce flare-ups, control redness and inflammation, and diminish the appearance of visible vessels.

How Is Rosacea Treated?

Rosacea treatment is planned individually according to which finding is dominant.

Appropriate skin care, topical treatments, oral medication when needed, IPL and vascular laser applications can all be used.

Triggers

What Triggers Rosacea?

Although triggers vary from person to person;

  • Sun and hot weather,
  • Hot showers and sauna,
  • Spicy and hot foods,
  • Alcohol,
  • Hot drinks,
  • Intense exercise,
  • Stress,
  • Cosmetic products that irritate the skin

may increase rosacea symptoms.

Topical Treatments

Creams Used in Rosacea

Depending on the type of rosacea;

  • Metronidazole,
  • Ivermectin,
  • Azelaic acid

topical treatments such as these may be used.

These treatments are particularly preferred for controlling acne-like red bumps and inflammatory lesions.

In suitable people where redness dominates, topical treatments such as brimonidine or oxymetazoline, which temporarily reduce redness, may also be considered.

In people with more intense inflammatory lesions, oral treatments such as doxycycline may be planned when needed.

Device Treatments

01

IPL Treatment for Rosacea

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) can be used in rosacea where diffuse facial redness and superficial capillaries are dominant.

With IPL, light energy is absorbed by haemoglobin in order to target superficial vascular structures.

Particularly;

  • Diffuse redness on the cheeks,
  • Redness around the nose,
  • Fine superficial vessels,
  • Persistent redness due to rosacea

it may be preferred for these.

IPL does not eliminate rosacea completely; it helps reduce redness and the appearance of vessels.

02

Vascular Laser Treatment for Rosacea

Vascular lasers can be used to treat prominent facial capillaries and persistent redness.

Particularly;

  • Prominent vessels beside the nose,
  • Capillaries on the cheeks,
  • Individually selectable facial vessels,
  • Persistent facial redness

it may be considered for these.

Since vascular laser systems work at different wavelengths, the appropriate system and parameters are chosen according to vessel diameter, depth and the person's skin type.

Daily Care

Skin Care in Rosacea

The skin barrier can be sensitive in rosacea, so the routine should be kept as simple as possible.

A gentle cleanser, a moisturiser suited to the skin type and regular sunscreen form the basis of daily care.

Products that over-exfoliate, irritate, or increase burning and redness should be avoided.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic disease; the goal is to keep symptoms under control for the long term.

Does rosacea go away completely?+

Rosacea is a chronic condition that can flare periodically. With treatment, symptoms can be kept under control for a long time.

Are rosacea and acne the same thing?+

No. Although acne-like lesions can occur in rosacea, they are different diseases. Comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) are usually absent in rosacea.

Can IPL be performed in rosacea?+

Yes. IPL can be used especially in people where diffuse redness and superficial capillaries are dominant.

Can vascular laser be performed in rosacea?+

Yes. Vascular lasers can be included in the treatment plan for people with persistent redness and prominent capillaries.

Does rosacea recur after IPL or vascular laser?+

Because rosacea is chronic, redness or visible vessels may reappear over time. Maintenance sessions can be planned when needed.

Assessment

Rosacea Treatment Is Planned Individually

Treatment is determined by the dominant finding: topical or systemic treatments for inflammatory lesions, IPL for diffuse redness, and vascular lasers for prominent capillaries.

For most people the best approach is not a single method, but appropriate skin care, medical treatments and device applications planned together according to individual needs.
