Stretch Mark Treatment (Striae Treatment)

The aim is to reduce the difference in colour and texture, support collagen production and help stretch marks blend more harmoniously with the surrounding skin.

Overview

Stretch marks (striae) are linear skin changes that develop as a result of rapid stretching of the skin and changes in the collagen-elastin structure of the dermis.

They are most often seen after pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss, growth periods, a rapid increase in muscle mass and hormonal changes. They may appear on the abdomen, hips, thighs, legs, breasts and arms.

The goal of stretch mark treatment is not to eliminate the marks completely, but to reduce the difference in colour and texture, support collagen production and help the marks blend with the surrounding skin.

Why Do Stretch Marks Occur?

In addition to rapid stretching of the skin, genetic predisposition, hormonal factors and the structural properties of the skin play a role in their formation.

In the early stage, stretch marks usually appear red, pink or purple (striae rubrae). Over time they may fade to a whiter, atrophic appearance and are then called striae albae.

The colour of the stretch mark and how long it has been present are important in choosing the treatment to be applied.

Eligibility

Who Is Stretch Mark Treatment Suitable For?

Stretch mark treatment is preferred for people;

  • Who developed stretch marks after pregnancy,
  • Whose stretch marks became prominent after rapid weight gain or loss,
  • Who developed stretch marks during puberty or a rapid growth period,
  • Who have stretch marks on the abdomen, hips, thighs, legs, breasts or arms,
  • Who wish to reduce the appearance of older white stretch marks

Methods

Which Methods Are Used in Stretch Mark Treatment?

No single method suits everyone. Depending on the characteristics of the stretch marks, gold needle (microneedling radiofrequency), fractional lasers and mesotherapy may be used alone or in combination.

01

Stretch Mark Treatment with Gold Needle

Gold needle (microneedling radiofrequency) works by delivering radiofrequency energy to determined depths of the skin through microneedles.

The controlled micro-injury and thermal effect aim to support collagen and elastin production and stimulate skin remodelling.

It can be included in the treatment plan particularly to reduce the texture and surface irregularity caused by stretch marks.

02

Stretch Mark Treatment with Fractional Laser

In fractional laser applications, controlled microthermal treatment zones are created in the skin to stimulate healing and remodelling.

The aim is to support collagen production, reduce the depth of stretch marks and give the skin texture a more homogeneous appearance.

The laser system and parameters to be used are determined according to the person's skin type and the characteristics of the stretch marks.

03

Stretch Mark Treatment with Mesotherapy

In mesotherapy, selected ingredients that support skin quality and renewal processes can be applied to the affected area with numerous small injections.

Mesotherapy can be planned alone or together with gold needle and laser applications depending on the characteristics of the stretch marks.

Areas

In Which Areas Do Stretch Marks Appear?

  • Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Hips
  • Legs
  • Chest
  • Arms

The colour of the stretch mark and how long it has been present are important in choosing the treatment to be applied.

Is the Treatment of Red and White Stretch Marks the Same?

No. Newly formed red or purple stretch marks and long-standing white stretch marks have different characteristics.

In new stretch marks, vascular structure and colour change are more prominent, while in older white marks skin atrophy and texture difference come to the fore.

Therefore, the method to be used and the treatment goal may change according to the stage of the stretch mark.

Can Older White Stretch Marks Be Treated?

Yes. Treatment can also be applied to long-standing white stretch marks. However, complete disappearance of old marks should not be expected.

With applications that stimulate collagen remodelling, such as gold needle and fractional laser, improvement in the texture and appearance of stretch marks can be targeted.

How Many Sessions Does Stretch Mark Treatment Require?

The number of sessions varies according to the age and depth of the stretch marks, the area involved and the method used.

Usually a treatment course applied at certain intervals is needed rather than a single session. The appropriate number of sessions is determined individually after the examination.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stretch Mark Treatment

Stretch Mark Treatment Is Planned Individually

The colour, depth and duration of every stretch mark differ. Therefore, when planning treatment, whether the marks are new or old, the skin type, the treatment area and the depth of the marks are evaluated together.

Depending on the person's needs, gold needle, fractional laser and mesotherapy are used alone or in combination to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and support skin quality.

Do stretch marks disappear completely?+

The realistic goal is not to eliminate stretch marks completely but to reduce their visibility and improve skin texture. The result depends on the age and depth of the marks and the individual response to treatment.

Are new or old stretch marks easier to treat?+

Newly formed red-purple stretch marks generally respond better to treatment. However, in older white marks, improving tissue quality and reducing visibility can also be targeted with suitable methods.

Is gold needle effective for stretch marks?+

Microneedling radiofrequency creates a controlled thermal effect in the dermis to support collagen and elastin production. It can therefore be used among treatments aimed at improving the texture and appearance of stretch marks.

Can stretch mark treatment be performed during pregnancy?+

Device and injection procedures for cosmetic purposes are not preferred during pregnancy. It is appropriate to postpone treatment until after pregnancy.
