Filler Applications

Under-Eye Light Filler

By reducing under-eye hollowing and the tear trough appearance, the transition between the under-eye area and the cheek is made softer and more rested.

Overview

Under-eye light filler is the application of hyaluronic acid based filler to appropriate anatomical areas in order to reduce under-eye hollowing and the tear trough appearance and to soften the transition between the under-eye area and the cheek.

Hollowing under the eye causes light to cast a shadow in this area, which can make a person look more tired and make under-eye darkness appear more pronounced. In suitable individuals, under-eye light filler aims to support this hollowing and achieve a more rested periocular appearance.

Not every under-eye darkness or tired appearance improves with filler. It is therefore important to assess beforehand whether the problem stems from hollowing, pigmentation, visible vessels, puffiness or a combination of these.

How Is Under-Eye Light Filler Performed?

Before the procedure the under-eye area and the mid-face are assessed together. The degree of hollowing, puffiness, skin quality and cheek support are examined to determine whether filler is appropriate.

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area and left for approximately 15–20 minutes. Hyaluronic acid based filler is then applied to the selected points in accordance with under-eye anatomy.

The periocular region is a special area in terms of vascular and lymphatic structures. The amount of filler and the treatment plan must therefore be determined carefully.

Eligibility

Who Is Under-Eye Light Filler Suitable For?

Under-eye light filler is particularly suitable for people who;

  • Have noticeable hollowing under the eyes,
  • Have a pronounced tear trough,
  • Have a sharp transition between the under-eye area and the cheek,
  • Look tired because of shadowing caused by hollowing,
  • Have structural or age-related volume loss under the eyes

It can be applied to both women and men. In people with pronounced under-eye bags, a tendency to oedema or skin laxity, filler may not always be a suitable option.

Scope

What Can Be Achieved With Under-Eye Light Filler?

In suitable individuals, under-eye light filler can;

  • Reduce hollowing under the eyes,
  • Soften the tear trough,
  • Refine the transition between the under-eye area and the cheek,
  • Reduce the shadowing created by hollowing,
  • Give the eye area a more rested appearance.

The aim is not to fill the under-eye area completely, but to support the hollowing in harmony with the natural anatomy of the face.

Process

01

Does Under-Eye Light Filler Remove Dark Circles?

Dark circles have different causes. Increased pigment, vessels showing through thin skin, genetic factors or the shadow created by hollowing can all cause a dark appearance.

Under-eye light filler does not remove pigmentation. However, if a significant part of the darkness comes from shadowing due to hollowing, supporting that hollow can make the under-eye area look brighter.

The correct treatment for dark circles must therefore be chosen according to the cause of the darkness.

02

Under-Eye Filler or Mid-Face Filler?

Under-eye hollowing is not always caused solely by volume loss under the eye. Insufficient mid-face and cheek support can contribute to a more pronounced under-eye to cheek transition.

For some people it may therefore be more appropriate to support the mid-face first, or to plan both areas together, rather than injecting the under-eye area directly.

03

Can Light Filler Be Applied to People With Under-Eye Bags?

Not every under-eye bag is suitable for filler. In people with pronounced bags or a tendency to oedema, adding volume can make existing puffiness more noticeable.

It is therefore important to distinguish hollowing, bags and oedema tendency from one another before under-eye light filler.

04

When Does Under-Eye Light Filler Settle?

The effect becomes visible right after the procedure. Mild swelling or bruising may occur around the eyes.

As the oedema subsides and the filler settles, the final appearance is usually assessed within 1–2 weeks.

05

How Long Does Under-Eye Light Filler Last?

Hyaluronic acid based under-eye light filler generally lasts about 1 year.

Duration varies with the properties of the product, the amount used and individual characteristics. Hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down by the body over time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Under-Eye Light Filler

Under-Eye Light Filler Is Planned Individually

The cause of a tired look under the eyes is not the same in everyone. Hollowing, pigmentation, vessel visibility, bags, oedema tendency and mid-face support must be assessed together.

Under-eye light filler is planned only for suitable individuals and in appropriate amounts, aiming to support the under-eye to cheek transition naturally.

Can under-eye light filler be applied to everyone?+

No. It is preferred in suitable individuals in whom hollowing is the main issue. In people with pronounced bags, oedema tendency or skin laxity, other treatment options may need to be considered.

Does under-eye light filler completely remove darkness?+

No. Filler does not directly treat pigmentation or vessel visibility. It can improve the part of the darkness caused by shadowing from hollowing.

Does under-eye light filler cause swelling?+

Temporary oedema may be seen after the procedure. As the under-eye area is sensitive in terms of lymphatic drainage, prolonged swelling can occur in some people. Correct patient selection and an appropriate amount of filler are therefore important.

Does under-eye light filler remove under-eye bags?+

No. It is not a treatment that removes bags. In unsuitable individuals, filler can make bags look more pronounced.

Is under-eye light filler painful?+

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. Brief stinging, pressure or tenderness may be felt during the procedure.

Can under-eye light filler be dissolved?+

Yes. Hyaluronic acid based under-eye fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase when needed. The need for dissolving is assessed by the physician.

Is under-eye light filler applied to men?+

Yes. It can be applied to suitable male patients with under-eye hollowing. The plan preserves the individual's facial anatomy and natural contours.

Can under-eye light filler be performed during pregnancy?+

Filler for cosmetic purposes is not recommended during pregnancy. It is preferable to postpone the procedure until after pregnancy.
